Modernization Committee Names Derek Harley as Republican Staff Director of the Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress

U.S. Representatives Derek Kilmer (D-WA-06) and William Timmons (R-SC-04), Chair and Vice Chair of the Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress (“Select Committee”), today announced the appointment of Derek Harley to serve as the new Republican Staff Director of the Select Committee.

A veteran congressional staffer with more than 20 years of policy, management, and campaign experience, Mr. Harley most recently served as Senior Vice President of Federal Affairs at Shumaker Advisors Ohio.

Previously, Mr. Harley served as Chief of Staff for Representative Brad Wenstrup (R-OH-02), a member of the House Committee on Ways and Means and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. Prior to joining Rep. Wenstrup’s staff, Mr. Harley served for more than six years as the Chief of Staff to Representative Wally Herger (R-CA-02), a senior member of the Ways and Means Committee and the then Chairman of the Health Subcommittee.

Mr. Harley began his career on Capitol Hill in 1999 as Rep. Herger’s Legislative Assistant/Counsel for energy, agriculture, and natural resources policy.

He currently splits his time between DC and Northern Ohio, where his wife and four children reside.

Mr. Harley assumed his Republican Staff Director responsibilities on April 19.
