Internship opportunities
The Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress is considering applications for the following fall internship opportunities:
- Operations & Research Intern
- Communications & Outreach Intern
Interns will work in the Washington, D.C. office in a part-time capacity (approximately 25 hours per week). Interns will work as part of a fully bipartisan staff, and candidates from all partisan and ideological backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Summer interns are expected to work from September 1 to November 30, but start dates are flexible.
Pay: $15.00 per hour

Operations & Research Internship

Communications & Outreach Internship

Responsibilities:
- Assist the Staff Directors and Clerk with logistical and administrative duties.
- Help draft the Select Committee's final report for the 117th Congress.
- Conduct research on topics related to committee recommendations.
- Support office operations, including preparing for and executing committee hearings, roundtables, and business meetings.
- Attend seminars, roundtables, brown bag lunches, and networking/social events to assist in professional development.
Requirements:
- Professional and positive demeanor while interacting with staff members and stakeholders in a fast-paced, highly dynamic environment.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills for verbal and written correspondence.
- An eagerness to work in a bipartisan environment.
Preferences:
- Pursuing or completed bachelor's degree.
- A demonstrated interest in public service, politics, and political science, especially in Congress, public policy, and/or government reform.
- Substantial research experience in social science or public policy.

Responsibilities:
- Assists the Communications Director and Deputy Communications Director with press and digital communications duties.
- Compile press and social media clips.
- Help draft committee newsletters.
- Assist in researching earned media opportunities.
- Attends seminars, roundtables, brown bag lunches, and networking/social events to assist in professional development.

The Select Committee has a flexible telework policy. While the House is in session, interns are expected to work from our office on the U.S. Capitol campus. Employees are permitted to telework when the House is in recess, up to eight days per month. The Select Committee will furnish telework equipment.
Applicant Instructions: All interested candidates are encouraged to submit a cover letter, resume, and writing sample no later than Friday, July 14. Once the application period closes, the office will contact the best qualified candidates to begin our interview process.

Communications & Outreach applicants may also submit a link to their portfolio of communications work or comparable work, but it is not required.
